History of the Breed: The Cairn Terrier comes from the Isle of Skye the largest and the most northerly island in the Inner Hebrides of
Scotland. These small terriers were used primarily for routing vermin from the rock piles called cairns on Scottish farmland. These early terriers
were highly prized and bred for their working ability. Cairn Terriers exhibit courage, tenacity and intelligence and were bred to work in difficult
island conditions in northern Scotland. The Cairn Terrier with its sturdy body, weather-proof coat equipped with large teeth in strong jaws
were sought generation after generation by the Scots.
General Appearance: A small working terrier that stands well forward on its forelegs. The coat is hard and weather resistant. The
head is short and wide with plenty of hair giving it a foxy expression.
