History of the Breed: The Cocker is one of the oldest of the land Spaniels they descended from the original Spaniels of Spain. Bred primarily as a flushing Spaniel, to flush woodcocks, hence the name "Cocker". This breed was also useful in tracking other small game including rabbits. The English Cocker Spaniel is one of the smallest of the sporting dogs.

General Appearance: Larger than the American Cocker Spaniel the English Cocker Spaniel is a medium sized muscular dog of square build with a well developed chest. This breed has a long head with a chiseled skull, angular muzzle, and a Wide nose. The long feathered Spaniel ears are thin and well feathered. The eyes are brown or hazel based on the coat color. The coat is flat, silky, never wirehaired or wavy, not too thick and never curly it has ample feathering on the legs and body. The dog is finished with a tail that is typically docked and carried level to the ground.

Coat: Medium length coat on the body with the hair being flat or slightly wavy and with a silky texture. The hair is short and fine on the head. The body is well-feathered.

Color: Various including parti-colors and solid colors. White is allowed only on the chest in solid colored dogs.
