History of the Breed: The Bichon Frise first appeared in the 14th century, a cross between the Barbet Water Spaniel and the Poodle. The Bichon was traded by Spanish sailors and became a favorite of the 16th century French royal court. In the late 1800s it became a common dog and was often seen with organ grinders, leading the blind, and doing tricks in circuses and fairs.

General Appearance: The Bichon Frise is a small, very intelligent, sturdy, white powder puff dog with black eyes, nose, lips, and footpads. The tail is well plumed and carried over the back the coat is naturally curly.

Height 9.5-11.5 Inches
Weight 7-12 Pounds

Coat: The undercoat is soft and dense, the outercoat of a coarser and curlier texture. The combination of the two gives a soft but substantial feel to the touch which is similar to plush or velvet and when patted springs back. When bathed and brushed, it stands off the body, creating an overall powder puff appearance.

Color: White, can have shadings of buff, cream or apricot around the ears or on the body
