History of the Breed: In the 18th century, the collie’s home was the highlands of Scotland used for centuries as a sheepdog.
Over time two types of Collies developed, the Rough Collie being the long haired variety that worked directly with the
flocks and the Smooth Collie with short hair used primarily to drive livestock to market.
These dogs were bred for centuries for their strength, endurance and working ability. Collie's are a very intelligent breed and prized
for their ability to work on their own.
The origination of the name is thought to come from the Black-Faced Colley Sheep.
General Appearance: The Collie is a medium to large attractive and intelligent breed that is classified into two breeds by coat type.
The wedge shaped head has a muzzle that is well-rounded and tapers to a
black nose. The eyes are almond shaped with the eye color based on the coat color. The chest is deep and strong. The sloping shoulders and
well-bent hocks provide a look of speed. The tail is moderately long and reaches almost to the hock and is carried low when relaxed and is raised
when excited. The body is covered in either a rough or smooth coat.

Smooth coat: The outer coat is short, hard, dense, and flat with an abundance of undercoat.
Rough coat: The outer coat is straight and harsh to the touch. The undercoat is soft, furry and so close together. The coat is short on the
head and legs medium length on the body and very abundant on the mane and frill.
Color: Collies come in four colors: sable and white, white, tricolor, and blue merle
