History of the Breed: These dogs were bred to run under or along-side of horse-drawn carriages in the 19th century. This breed is known for it's working ability and has served as a general purpose dog used in wars, as a shepherd, a rat and vermin eliminator, a bird dog, a retriever, a pack hunting dog for bear or dear, and a guard dog. Its origin is unknown however; Croatia, England, and even Egypt have all been considered. Artifacts exist that demonstrate the Dalmatian or a dog resembling the Dalmatian had been in multiple countries prior to the 19th century making the origin controversial.

The stop is moderately well defined. The cheeks blend smoothly into a powerful muzzle. The muzzle and the top of the skull are about equal in length. The eyes are set moderately well apart, are medium sized and somewhat rounded in appearance. The ears are set high of moderate size thin and fine and carried close to the head. The body is deep chested, athletic and finished with a long thin tail.
