History of the Breed: The German Shorthaired Pointer was developed to hunt birds and small animals on land or in the water and
likely originated from crossing an older Spanish Pointer breed with various local German scent hounds and track and trail dogs. This German
stock was later crossed with the English Pointer to create the all purpose gun dog we know today.
General Appearance: A medium sized athletic dog with a short back and a deep chest, the GSP is well balanced with a symmetrical frame.
The skull is broad and slightly round on top. The medium size eyes are dark brown and almond shaped. The ears lie flat and are broad and set high.
The jaw is powerful with well developed muscles. The muzzle is sufficiently long to enable the dog to seize game properly and carry it for
long periods. The nose is brown, the larger the better, and with nostrils well opened and broad. The tail is docked and set high and firm, the
coat is short and thick and the color can be solid liver or a combination of liver and white, liver patched and white ticked, or liver roan.

Coat: Short, thick and tough. The hair is longer on the underside of the tail and the back edges of the haunches. The hair is softer,
thinner and shorter on the ears and the head.
