Selecting a Veterinarian

Your Veterinarian is critical to your dog's health. They know the best preventive and critical care for your dog's individual health care needs. Your Veterinarian will maintain a history of your pet, including health records that detail immunizations, reactions to medications, behavior traits, etc. It is important to see your Veterinarian for all your pet's health care needs on a regular schedule.

Selecting a Veterinarian for your pet is an important decision. You should take the time and make an informed selection. Consider the following prior to a selection:

  • The qualifications of the Doctors and staff
  • Friendliness of the Doctors and staff
  • Convenient hours of service
  • What about after hour emergencies? - Hospital hours
  • Location, driving time
  • Associated charges for procedures
  • Do they accept payment plans?
  • Do they accept your Veterinarian insurance?
  • Is the facility clean?
  • Are appointments required?

    Getting a Veterinarian recommendation:

  • If you purchased from a breeder ask them for a recommendation
  • Ask friends that have dogs for a recommendation
  • Check with your local and state Veterinary associations
  • Use the Internet - search your area
  • Look in the yellow pages
  • Ask you local Animal Shelter
  • Ask your pet groomer
  • Ask your pet boarder
Once you select your Veterinarian, you will be building a medical history for your dog. Building a relationship with your selected Veterinarian will have a positive long-term impact on the quality of care your dog receives throughout life.
